it’s one of those things that you either love or you hate. if there’s nothing wrong with your taste buds, you’ll probably hate it. some will tell you it’s the best thing since sliced bread others - and by others i mean me - will tell you that it’s the most horrible thing i have ever tasted. it looks hideous, it tastes horrible and it smells even worse.
still, if you’re in kiwiland, there’s no way around it. i think that it’s important for me, as an expat (a concept that will soon have to give an entirely different blog post, when i can be bothered), i think i should try everything kiwi. i’m a fan of most things kiwi like L&P (it deserves its own blog post too), jaffas (both the chocolates and the aucklanders) and the pineapple lumps (to name a few)… but marmite is one of those things that i really should have skipped.
there’s also a british version of the yeast spread. however, the subtle difference between the two means a lot to kiwis, who are very proud of their marmite.
love it or hate it, marmite is a must-have in every kiwi fridge so, if you’re trying to experience kiwiland and you can bare the smell of the open jar, you should definitely give it a try.

Because i work surrounded by kiwis and Ozzies i had the misfortune of tasting it as well
Mind you, the Kiwi that gave me the toast was kind enough to only spread a thin layer so it wasn’t that bad. What i don’t understand is how kids love it down there. I mean, in a way comparable to us loving nutella or something…
As for the vegemite (the brit version), it’s as disgusting. But just like a had vowel or consonant in a foreign language, unless it’s your own you can’t perceive any difference. It all tasts really odd
